from what i remember, the newborn phase is a super hazy time. we can barely remember to brush our hair or teeth. can’t figure out how to eat with a newborn cradled in your arms and function on very little sleep. making the first excursion out of the house is stressful yet once you do it, you feel like you accomplished the biggest hurdle (thank you target). but there is one thing that i remember. you spend your entire day looking down at your little one memorizing every little bend of the fingers, the long fingernails, the curl of the toes and the soft flakes of newborn skin. your neck muscles get strained because you’re spending so much time looking at this amazingness. and this newborn stage is so fleeting that i love being able to spend time with the parents in their home, photographing them as they soak in every bit of this precious short time.
a few months ago i had the honor of capturing their joy for their upcoming little one during their maternity session at wilder ranch and to join them in their home for their newborn session that was filled with so much unconditional love was just perfect. we spent our time capturing their connection and bond between mom, dad and baby and even though our little trooper stayed awake for the entire time (except when he finally fell asleep in the swing when i was packing up heehee), he was bathed with kisses, cuddles and even some funny faces. i will probably have to do another blog post on the amazing nursery. this peter pan nursery was almost all handmade and even included a super cool lightning cloud!
