my favorite yo-yo quilt

i found this amazing yo-yo quilt a few years ago at an awesome store in simi valley called aubergine. it was tucked on the bottom of a shelf behind some milk glass bottles. i grabbed it quickly and did a mini dance when i saw that it was only forty dollars. many of you know that i love old quilts and wonder about it’s history. especially this one. it feels really old. some of the fabric has disintegrated in my fingers when i tried to sew up some of the sections. it also smells of strawberries (like that strawberry shortcake doll from the eighties) and i can’t wash it as it wouldn’t survive. i rarely use it for sessions though i did use it once with my oldest daughter last year which yielded some of my favorite photos of her. so of course i had to do some photos of it with my littlest (so glad there was no spit up moment ha).

sometimes i wish i knew how to sew so i could create my own yo-yo quilt (aw man, who am i kidding, just so i could make my own quilts! i’m sure i would save money from purchasing them but i love the history and softness that comes from old quilts. though if i wonder if i would spend more just on the time/fabrics of making my own, ha).

and i may have mom goggles but i love her eyes. depending on how the light shines on them, they can be grey or blue. i know that babies eye color can change in the first year so we’ve been curious if they will. i have brown, dad has hazel, emilia has brown so we are really hoping her’s stays blue (both granddads have blue eyes so we know where she got them from). we love calling her baby blue.
