when i was in los angeles in july for the month (of work and play), i had a family maternity session that i wanted to make special and have mom and daughter make floral crowns. but fresh flowers are pretty expensive though luckily the original la flower market was a short drive away in downtown los angeles and is a flower wonderland. the first time i ever explored the flower market was for our wedding in 2009, my husband and i went two days before our wedding and picked up all the flowers for our wedding. i made the bouquets, boutonnieres and floral decorations for just under $200. not too shabby. so when it came time to prep for this session, i knew that i had to go back. i know that i could have purchased fake flowers and make them to keep for the future but there’s something about the sweet scent of fresh flowers atop your head that i knew i had to use fresh flowers. plus it only cost $40 for all the materials and flowers.
i took emilia with me so it would be a little mom/daughter date. she loved seeing all the fresh flowers and helping me pick out what would look great for the floral crowns. she picked sparkly baby breathes for the little girl’s crown as that was her favorite. i personally wanted to buy every hydrangea in every color.
for my first time making floral crowns, i was incredibly happy with the final results. mom’s had a beautiful balance of pink, greens and yellows while daughter’s had sparkly goodness which she loved. maybe next time i’m down in los angeles, i can finally make a floral backdrop that i’ve been dreaming about 🙂
